About Us

About the Team

HBDT was founded in 1990 by Chris Brengel, Jennifer Gonzalez, Beth Mitchell, and Quan Vu as an undergraduate organization at Harvard College to promote Ballroom and Latin Dancing in the Harvard community and to represent Harvard and collegiate Ballroom to the larger Ballroom community. HBDT aims to further these goals by supporting a competitive dance team comprised of rookies and veteran dancers.

HBDT also aims to promote the love of dancing to the Harvard community by regularly providing practices, lessons, social dances, and other special events. Harvard Ballroom Dance Team annually travels to Montreal and New York to compete, and we host our very own competition in the fall: Harvard Beginners.

Meet the Executive Board!

  • Mia Wright

    President & Showcase Producer
    hbdt.president@gmail.com &
    hbdt.showcase@gmail.com

Hello! My name is Mia and I am a senior in Leverett studying mechanical engineering. I’m from Virginia, and my background is in tap, ballet, and jazz. I joined the team during my freshman year back in 2019, and I’ve been ballroom dancing ever since! Outside of ballroom I can be found crying over a pset, working on my robotics thesis, or watching an early 2000s romcom while avoiding my work. I can’t wait to meet our new team this year!

  • Dora Ivkovich

    Vice President & Showcase Director
    hbdt.vp@gmail.com &
    hbdt.showcase@gmail.com

Hi! My name is Dora Ivkovich. I'm a junior in Leverett concentrating in economics. I'm from Michigan! After growing up dancing ballet and tap, I discovered ballroom in high school and immediately got hooked on Standard and Latin. When I'm not dancing, you can find me in Lev, probably working on a pset!

  • Tai Ran Tang

    Co-Captain
    hbdt.captain@gmail.com

My name’s Tai Ran (pronounced like tyrannosaurus) and I’m a Junior studying Political Science and History! My favourite dance style theoretically is Standard (because it looks beautiful and graceful) but in reality it is Latin because I started that dance style with the best possible dance partner (@ my vice captain)! My current aspiration in life is to adopt a black cat and own a bunch of plants.

  • Ida Fladhammer

    Co-Captain & Beginners Coordinator
    hbdt.captain@gmail.com & compcommchair@gmail.com

Hello Lovelies, I'm Ida, a Junior studying Economics and living in Adams. I have been dancing since I could walk and formally for nine fabulous years. Going into college, I knew I wanted to be a competitive ballroom dancer, but I had no idea how much I'd come to love and obsess over this sport. Outside of ballroom, you'll find me knitting, talking to my plants, outside, or a combination of them all, usually mentally imagining ballroom dance sequences. Happy dancing!

  • Estela Millan

    Co-Rookie Captain
    hbdt.rookiecaptain@gmail.com

Hello! I’m Estela, and I’m a junior in Lowell studying Chemistry. I am super excited to be Rookie Captain for this wonderful team! I have been dancing flamenco since I was seven, but only joined Harvard Ballroom as a rookie last year. When I’m not dancing, you can probably find me synthesizing a chemical or reading a book in the Lowell courtyard!

  • Michael Finkenbinder

    Co-Rookie Captain
    hbdt.rookiecaptain@gmail.com

Hi! My name is Michael Finkenbinder. I'm a junior in Adams concentrating in applied math and econ/CS. I joined the ballroom team my sophomore year at the request of my friend and now dance partner and I’ve been hooked ever since! I’m looking forward to getting to dance alongside all of you and am excited to see what this next semester brings!

  • Jacque Grayson

    Secretary & Acting COO
    hbdt.secretary@gmail.com &
    hbdt.operations@gmail.com

Hi! My name is Jacque (they/she/he), a senior in Winthrop House, and I concentrate in women, gender, and sexuality studies with a secondary in government! I joined the ballroom team my sophomore year on a whim because one of my friends asked me to go with her, but ever since then I was completely hooked. You can often find me line dancing or singing (not always well) in the Winthrop dhall with friends during a late night of reading theoretical texts. Aside from ballroom dancing, I enjoy playing the guitar, watching anime, and training with the Harvard Women’s Wrestling Club. If you ever see me around campus, feel free to stop me and say hi!

  • Dante Minutillo

    Chief Financial Officer
    hbdt.treasurer@gmail.com

Hi everyone! I'm Dante, and I'm a senior in Leverett House concentrating in Classics. I didn't discover Ballroom (or dancing at all) until Junior year, but I've had a great time discovering all the different dances and meeting the cool people in this community! Outside of dance, you'll probably find me playing piano or working on my thesis in the Lev dhall. Looking forward to meeting our new dancers!

  • Cooper Skenyon

    Cooper Skenyon

    Chief Media Officer hbdt.operations@gmail.com

Hey everyone! My name is Cooper, I’m a freshman living in Gray’s Hall who intends to study Government, and it is my distinct pleasure to be serving as HBDT’s Chief Media Officer. After practicing ballet, lyrical, jazz, and tap in high school, I knew that I had to continue dancing in college, and I have found my niche here in ballroom dance! Outside of Ballroom, I typically spend my time playing Dungeons and Dragons, writing, or enjoying a good cup of coffee.

  • Kamil Kon

    External Business Manager hbdt.operations@gmail.com

Hey! My name is Kamil and I’m a still undeclared freshman living in Weld Hall. Currently, I serve as the External Business Manager for the team and am excited to be helping learn more of you around campus to get into ballroom dancing! I have had no prior experience with dancing before coming to campus and one decision to go to a bootcamp later, I have found a new interest, a space to completely relax and forget about school and some life-long friendships all around the globe. If you don’t find me in the ballroom, I’ll be in Lamont catching up with the HUM10 readings or socializing at Berg!
