General Information

Harvard Ballroom Dance Team’s social classes offer a casual and inviting environment for anyone, regardless of experience or age, to learn a variety of ballroom and social dance styles.

Our social dance class program provides an enjoyable and productive way to meet new people as we welcome all Harvard affiliates as well as the entire Cambridge community. No partner is necessary, but this is also the perfect opportunity to bring a significant other or friend!

For more detailed information, see our latest social dance class schedule and buy a class package online to reserve your spot! You will receive a class pass card at the door on the first day of class. You may also register at the door, however, we highly encourage you to register online to save time, and secure your spot. If your schedule does not permit consistent attendance in class, or if you are not sure if you are ready to commit to a month of classes, we do also offer drop in classes.

Interested in having a social dance class taught at your next event? The Harvard Ballroom Dance Team also teaches for private events! We provide classes in everything from Salsa to Waltz in the greater Cambridge area, and have a competitive pricing system. To schedule a private social dance class email for more details.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a partner?
No partner is required for any of our classes!  Social dancing is a great way to meet people and our teachers regularly rotate partners to give everyone the opportunity to dance with different people.

Can I bring a partner if I want to?  Will I be forced to rotate partners?
In social dancing, everyone is strongly encouraged to rotate partners to meet new people but you will not be forced to change partners if you don’t want to.

Do I need to have prior dance experience?
No, we welcome absolute beginners!  In fact, every social dance is a beginner-level class unless otherwise noted.  Just bring yourself and we’ll do the rest!

Can I register in person at the door?
Although we do offer in-person registration, we strongly recommend you to register online to reserve your spot.  Additionally, registering at the door is slower and may cause you to miss valuable instruction.

What should I wear to class?  Do I need special shoes?
Wear something that makes you feel comfortable and allows you to move.  No special shoes required.

Who teaches the classes?
Classes are taught by experienced members of the Harvard Ballroom Dance Team or friends of HBDT from studios and teams around Boston.

When and where are classes held?
All logistics are available on the Schedule page.

Is there any “fine print” I should read?
Yes!  Please read our Social Class Policies.
