ShowWe are proud to announce our performers this year: Mariko Cantley & Slaveyko BaylovUS Professional Standard CompetitorsMariko Cantley Mariko began her dance training at age 5 in classical ballet.
She studied at Boston Ballet, Ballet Theatre of Boston, and American Academy of Ballet and with Nora Irinova, training in character dance, jazz, hip hop, and ballroom. She began ballroom while studying for her BA in History at Harvard College, where she served as Team Captain of the Harvard Ballroom Team. In 2005 she began competing professionally in International Standard. She trains primarily with Charlotte Jorgensen, and has worked with Richard and Anne Gleave, Paul Holmes, and Linas Koreiva. She has been a frequent finalist in Rising Star competitions across the country. We're proud to have our honored alumna perform at this year's beginner competition. Slaveyko Baylov Slaveyko Baylov began dancing ballroom at the age of 15. In 1997 he moved to the US to train and compete professionally. In 2005 he and his previous partner, Irena Kaklamanova, were United States National Rising Star Champions. In 2006 they made the Blackpool Rising Star Semi-Final and also passed the top 40 mark in the Open Professional Ballroom. Mariko and Slavi began competing together in May, 2009. They were recent finalists in the Open Professional Ballroom competitions at Millenium in Florida and Empire in New York City. Both teach pro/am and amateur students in Manhattan, and Mariko also teaches pro/am, amateur and youth students in Boston. |
